Knowing how to maintain your Panasonic air conditioner is essential in achieving
optimum efficiency, and most importantly to keep constant circulation of fresh and
cool air in your room.

DON'T SHORT CYCLETHE COOLING SYSTEM

An air conditioner has a cooling system that's identical to a refrigerator's.

And it is important not to turn the unit off and then back on right away. You will have to
wait at least 10 minutes after shutting the unit off to allow the pressure in the
refrigeration system to equalise once again.

This will prolong the life of your air conditioner.

MAINTAINING AN UNUSEDAIR CONDITIONER

Dry the internal parts of the indoor unit by operating the unit for 2-3 hours using FAN
operation (Cooling model) or heating operation with 30˚C set temperature (Heat Pump
model).

Then turn off the power supply and unplug. And remember to remove the remote
control batteries.

RECOMMENDEDINSPECTION

After operating for many months, the air conditioner will become dirty and this
decreases its performance.

Depending on the operation conditions, a dirty unit may produce odour and dust may
pollute the dehumidification system.

Therefore, a seasonal inspection by an authorised dealer is recommended in addition
to regular cleaning.

CLEANING

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use polishing fluid or water hotter than 40˚C to clean the unit.

Remove dirt using a vacuum cleaner and wash the air filter with water. If badly soiled, wash it with soap or a mild household detergent before letting it dry and reinstalling it. Recommendation: If the unit is operating in a dusty environment, clean the filters every 2 weeks as continuous use of these dirty filters will reduce cooling efficiency.

Gently wash with water and a sponge. Do not press the front panel too hard when washing. When using kitchen cleaning fluid (neutral detergent), rinse thoroughly. Do not dry the front panel under direct sunlight.

Remove dirt using a vacuum cleaner. As for the Solar Refreshing Deodorizing Filter, you will need to place it under direct sunlight for 6 hours before fitting it back in place. Recommendation: Replace these filters every 3 years.

REDUCING POWER BILLS(COOLING MODEL)

The key to reducing air conditioning cost is to limit the amount of heat generated within the home.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy a cooler day while saving cost and energy all at the same time!

Lights generate heat and this will make your air conditioner utilise more power. So be sure to keep the lights off when rooms are not in use.

Install awnings, curtains or blinds to keep out direct sunlight. This will help keep your home cooler.

Reduce activities that require you to go in and out through the doors of your home during the afternoon as this will allow the cool air to escape, and hot air to enter your home.

ENJOY A MORE EFFICIENT AIRCONDITIONING

One of the most inexpensive and effective ways to reduce your air conditioning cost
is to adjust your thermostat setting.

Here are some additional ideas as to what you can do to help you save more energy.

  • The savings can be significant when you set your thermostat at 1˚C or higher
(cooling model) or 2˚C or lower (heating model). For each degree that you raise, you
reduce seasonal cooling costs by 10%.
  • Use a ceiling fan or a portable fan to supplement your air conditioning. A fan can
make you feel a few degrees cooler so you can set your thermostat a few degrees
higher and save on cooling cost.
  • Ensure that your air conditioner is not blocked and filters should be checked every 2
weeks as dirty filters may reduce efficient cooling or heating.
  • Ensure that all doors are closed and windows shut when the air conditioning is
    turned on.
  • Remember to turn off your kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans when your air
    conditioning is operating.
  • Caulk and weather-strip leaky windows and doors.
  • Shade your home from direct sunlight by installing shades, drapes and awnings to
block the hot sun from heating up your home.
  • If you suspect that your air conditioning system is not cooling or heating properly,
just have it checked. A unit that is experiencing operational problems can cause
    extremely high bills.
  • Be extra careful about temperature setting, hours of operation and filter condition if
your air conditioning equipment is older and less efficient.
