ENERGY SAVING TIPS

REDUCING POWER BILLS (COOLING MODEL)

The key to reducing air conditioning cost is to limit the amount of heat generated within the home.

Here are some tips to help you enjoy a cooler day while saving cost and energy all at the same time!

Energy Saving Tips - lights off when rooms are not in use

Lights generate heat and this will make your air conditioner utilise more power. So be sure to keep the lights off when rooms are not in use.

Energy Saving Tips - keep out direct sunlight

Install awnings, curtains or blinds to keep out direct sunlight. This will help keep your home cooler.

Energy Saving Tips - reduce activities that allow cool air to escape, and hot air to enter your home

Reduce activities that require you to go in and out through the doors of your home during the afternoon as this will allow the cool air to escape, and hot air to enter your home.

ENJOY A MORE EFFICIENT AIR CONDITIONING

One of the most inexpensive and effective ways to reduce your air conditioning cost is to adjust your thermostat setting.

Here are some additional ideas as to what you can do to help you save more energy.

01

The savings can be significant when you set your thermostat at 1˚C or higher (cooling model) or 2˚C or lower (heating model). For each degree that you raise, you reduce seasonal cooling costs by 10%.

02

Use a ceiling fan or a portable fan to supplement your air conditioning. A fan can make you feel a few degrees cooler so you can set your thermostat a few degrees higher and save on cooling cost.

03

Ensure that your air conditioner is not blocked and filters should be checked every 2 weeks as dirty filters may reduce efficient cooling or heating.

04

Ensure that all doors are closed and windows shut when the air conditioning is turned on.

05

Remember to turn off your kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans when your air conditioning is operating.

06

Caulk and weather-strip leaky windows and doors.

07

Shade your home from direct sunlight by installing shades, drapes and awnings to block the hot sun from heating up your home.

08

If you suspect that your air conditioning system is not cooling or heating properly, just have it checked. A unit that is experiencing operational problems can cause extremely high bills.

09

Be extra careful about temperature setting, hours of operation and filter condition if your air conditioning equipment is older and less efficient.
